PASCO COUNTY, Fla. – A 66-year-old woman from Zephyrhills was tragically killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Bruce B. Downs Boulevard at the intersection of State Road 56 early this morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 25-year-old Tampa woman was driving a Toyota Corolla northbound on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard in the left turn lanes when the pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway from the median, stepping into the vehicle’s path.

The impact caused the pedestrian to sustain severe injuries, and she was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Corolla remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and no charges have been filed at this time.
The intersection of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and SR-56 was temporarily closed during the investigation, but has since reopened.
