ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – The City of Zephyrhills is asking residents to significantly reduce their water usage, including limiting toilet flushing, due to the strain on the sewer system caused by Hurricane Milton.

The heavy rainfall from the hurricane has overwhelmed the city’s sewer system, making it unable to keep up with the current demand. Excessive toilet flushing is a major contributor to the problem.

Conserving water at this critical time will help alleviate pressure on the sewer system and prevent further issues, such as sewage backups or overflows.

The city is working diligently to address the situation and restore the sewer system to its full capacity. Residents will be informed when water usage can return to normal.

In the meantime, residents can help by:

  • Limiting toilet flushing: Only flush when absolutely necessary.
  • Taking shorter showers: Reduce shower time to save water.
  • Postponing laundry: Wait to do laundry until the situation improves.
  • Avoiding running water unnecessarily: Turn off faucets when not in use.

The city appreciates the cooperation and understanding of its residents during this challenging time.
