TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. – A 68-year-old Tarpon Springs man died Friday night after causing a head-on collision in Pinellas County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), around 8:40 pm, the man was driving a Toyota Tacoma southbound in the northbound lanes of Belcher Road for unknown reasons.

At the intersection of Belcher Road and Beecher Drive East, the Tacoma collided with a northbound Cadillac DTS and then a Mazda Protégé 5.

All three drivers were transported to area hospitals with injuries. The wrong-way driver later succumbed to his injuries. The other drivers, a 73-year-old woman from Tarpon Springs and a 35-year-old man from Palm Harbor, are expected to recover.

The FHP is investigating the crash to determine the cause of the wrong-way driving.
