HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – The Withlacoochee River is showing signs of receding after recent heavy rainfall, but flood concerns remain. While the river has crested in Trilby and is expected to crest soon in Ridge Manor, minor flooding is still anticipated in the coming days.

Residents in low-lying areas are urged to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.

  • Trilby (US301): The river has crested and will start receding this week. Minor flooding is expected to continue through Friday, with levels dropping about 6 inches.
  • Ridge Manor (SR50): The river is expected to crest within the next few days and then begin to slowly recede.
  • Flood Levels: Both Trilby and Ridge Manor are currently peaking about 5 feet lower than levels seen during Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Sandbag Distribution:

A sandbag distribution site is open at the Ridge Manor Community Center (34240 Cortez Blvd., Ridge Manor, FL 33523).

  • Hours of Operation:
    • Tuesday, August 20: 7 AM – 7 PM
    • Wednesday, August 21: 7 AM – 7 PM

  • If you live in a low-lying area and see floodwaters, consider evacuating to stay with family, friends, or at a hotel.
  • Do not drive through flooded roads. Turn around, don’t drown.
  • Before evacuating, turn off power at your house to prevent potential fires.
