Where does Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo go for his apology?

The World Health Organization announced last week that healthy children — defined as those between 6 months old and age 17 — do not need COVID-19 vaccines.

The recommendation essentially affirms what Ladapo said last year.

Nearly 13 months ago, the Florida Department of Health issued guidance on pediatric vaccines within the state.

“Florida recognizes that parents should always be empowered to make the best health decisions for their children,” Ladapo’s department said in its March 2022 guidelines.

“As the risks of administering a COVID-19 vaccine to healthy children may outweigh the benefits, the Florida Department of Health has issued the following guidance: Based on currently available data, healthy children aged 5 to 17 may not benefit from receiving the currently available COVID-19 vaccine. The Department recommends that children with underlying conditions are the best candidates for the COVID-19 vaccine.”

That was extended to younger children when the shots were approved for that age group.

Gov. Ron DeSantis and Dr. Ladapo drew broad criticism from liberals in the government and media for the decision. Last June, President Joe Biden denounced the move.

“Let’s be clear: Elected officials shouldn’t get in the way and make it more difficult for parents who want their children to be vaccinated and want to protect them and those around them,” Biden said. “This is no time for politics. It’s about parents being able to do everything they can to keep their children safe.”

But according to Fox News, the WHO now agrees with Ladapo.

Using the “risk of severe disease and death” as its metric, the agency declared that children between 6 months and 17 years are now in the “low priority” category for COVID-19 vaccines.

The WHO still stressed, however, that this age group needs “traditional essential vaccines” for illnesses such as polio and measles.

Fox News noted that the WHO also backed away from recommending booster shots for healthy adults under age 60, acknowledging that one factor is the number of those “previously infected with COVID-19,” a nod to the benefits of natural immunity.

Ladapo has also recommended that adults, especially men, between 18 and 39 avoid the jab because of the risk of heart illnesses and death.
