A Wisconsin teacher initially charged in May with sexually assaulting a fifth-grade student is now facing a slew of additional charges. Madison Bergmann, 24, of St. Paul, was arrested on May 1st and charged with first-degree child sexual assault involving a child under 13.

The disturbing case came to light when the victim’s mother overheard him on the phone with Bergmann on April 29th.

The child’s parents then discovered illicit text messages exchanged between Bergmann and their son, leading them to report the situation to River Crest Elementary School in Hudson on May 1st.

Police were called, and Bergmann was arrested. She resigned from her teaching position on May 13th.

According to charging documents, Bergmann and the boy allegedly texted each other “almost daily.” The messages reportedly included explicit content where Bergmann expressed her enjoyment of “making out” with the child and him touching her. The boy also told police that the two engaged in inappropriate touching in the classroom and kissed during lunch breaks.

Bergmann was released on a $25,000 cash bond with strict conditions, including no contact with the victim or anyone under the age of 18. She was also ordered to surrender her passport.
