POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A Winter Haven man found himself in hot water with the law after an icy outburst at a Dundee gas station Wednesday evening. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42-year-old Mark Davis Cox following a disturbance involving an ice machine.
Shortly after 8:00 PM, deputies responded to a call about a man causing a scene at a gas station on Dundee Road. Upon arrival, they found Cox yelling at and striking an ice machine outside the store.

While the recent cold snap might have some Floridians feeling frosty, it seems Cox took his frustrations out on the wrong target.
When confronted by a deputy, Cox denied any wrongdoing, claiming the deputy should already know him. However, Cox’s belligerent behavior, the distinct aroma of alcohol, and his apparent intoxication were enough to warrant further action.
As the deputy attempted to take Cox into custody, he resisted arrest, adding another charge to his growing list of offenses.

Cox was ultimately arrested and transported to the Polk County Jail, where he was charged with:
- Disorderly Conduct
- Disorderly Intoxication
- Resisting Arrest
“We get it; the temperature outside is very cold (especially for Florida standards), but it’s not the ice machine’s fault. Maybe someone left the door on the ice machine open, causing these ridiculous temperatures,” said Polk County Sheriff’s Office in a statement.
