Winter Haven Bicyclist Killed After Mustang Strikes Him, Collides with SUV

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A 39-year-old Winter Haven man riding a bicycle was killed Wednesday night after being struck by a Ford Mustang, which then collided with an SUV. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports the incident occurred on South County Line Road, south of Ralston Road, at approximately 8:53 p.m.

A 23-year-old Winter Haven man was driving a Ford Mustang southbound on South County Line Road when he veered off the roadway and struck the bicyclist, who was riding along the highway shoulder.

Following the initial collision, the Mustang re-entered the roadway and collided with a Mercedes M Class SUV, driven by a 69-year-old Lakeland woman.

Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Tragically, the bicyclist, also transported to a hospital, later died from the injuries he sustained in the crash.

The FHP is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
