WIMAUMA, Fla. – Imagine a bustling downtown district for Wimauma complete with local retail and services – a central hub for one of Hillsborough County’s diverse communities.
The Wimauma Community Plan outlines this vision and was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners in fall of 2021. Hillsborough County is studying the financial feasibility of providing the infrastructure for that dream to become a reality.
With assistance from the Wimauma Community Development Corp. and Enterprising Latinas, Hillsborough County will kick off this effort by engaging Wimauma businesses and residents on how to create a thriving downtown for the South Hillsborough community.
Stakeholders will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24, at Wimauma Elementary School to discuss developing and nurturing a central business district for Wimauma.
The project’s first phase took two years, as residents and businesses engaged to share what they want for their community. In the next phase of the plan, the community will explore how to achieve those goals.
Attendees will meet the team of professionals that will lead the discussion on financially feasible strategies to implement the Wimauma Community Plan’s downtown. Experts will share examples of their approach to fiscal sustainability with the community and show a preliminary model of the plan’s financial performance. Small group discussions and a question-and-answer session will follow the presentation.
