The Trump administration said Wednesday they will not answer emails from reporters with their pronouns listed in their email signatures.
“It is official White House policy to IGNORE reporters’ emails with pronouns in the signature,” Trump War Room, an account verified with the official X account for the Trump campaign, wrote on X.
“I don’t respond to people who use pronouns in their signatures as it shows they ignore scientific realities and therefore ignore facts,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt was quoted saying in the post.

Leavitt reportedly responded to a New York Times (NYT) reporter who had reached out to her inquiring about the closing of a climate research observatory, saying, “As a matter of policy, we do not respond to reporters with pronouns in their bios.”
Before that instance, another NYT reporter received a similar email from Katie Miller, an advisor at the Department of Government Efficiency. Miller reportedly wrote a nearly identical message to the statement quoted by the Trump War Room on Wednesday.
“As a matter of policy, I don’t respond to people who use pronouns in their signatures as it shows they ignore scientific realities and therefore ignore facts,” Miller reportedly wrote to a Times journalist. “This applies to all reporters who have pronouns in their signature.”

The use of pronouns in email signatures has increased in recent years to “show support and solidarity for our transgender and non-binary friends in our acceptance of all genders,” according to Inclusive Employers.
“Any reporter who chooses to put their preferred pronouns in their bio clearly does not care about biological reality or truth and therefore cannot be trusted to write an honest story,” Leavitt told the Times.
Crooked Media reporter Matt Berg told the NYT he added “(he/him)” to a message sent to Miller about the Trump administration’s Ukraine policy and received a similar response.
“I find it baffling that they care more about pronouns than giving journalists accurate information, but here we are,” Berg told the Times.
