A 30-year-old West Virginia woman was arrested this week in connection with the death of a 72-year-old man found dead in early 2018.
On Wednesday, June 14, 2023, Autumn McNeely, age 30, of Crawley W.V., was arrested and charged with 1st-degree murder after an extensive investigation relating to the death of Clarence “Bud” Sheppard, age 72, of Rupert W.V.
In January 2018, members of the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office and W.V. State Police were requested to conduct a welfare check at Mr. Sheppard’s home after being heard from him for several days.

Clarence Sheppard was located inside his residence and was found deceased.
Sheppard’s body was sent to the W.V. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy was performed, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Multiple individuals were interviewed at the time, including Autumn McNeely.
After countless hours of investigation, the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office members spoke to McNeely again on June 14, 2023.
“During this particular interview, evidence was obtained which did lead to the implication of Ms. Autumn McNeely’s involvement in the death of Mr. Clarence Sheppard,” said Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office,
McNeely was arraigned before a Greenbrier County Magistrate and is currently being held in Southern Regional Jail without bond.
“Cpl. Alex Workman is the lead investigator regarding this investigation. This case is still considered active until all leads have been followed through,” said GCSO.
