Senator Mike Maroney, chairman of the West Virginia Senate Health and Human Resources Committee, was removed from his leadership position following misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct.
The charges stem from an incident at Gumby’s Cigarette & Beer World on August 4th.
Surveillance video allegedly shows Maroney engaging in inappropriate behavior while alone in the video lottery room. Employees alerted the Glen Dale Police Department, leading to Maroney’s arrest.

Senate President Craig Blair expressed disappointment and concern, stating that the allegations are “not up to the standard of what we expect from our elected leaders.”
Maroney was relieved of his committee responsibilities to address his “personal” issues.
This incident comes shortly after Maroney’s primary election loss, where his stance against a vaccine exemption bill for certain students. Maroney’s term as a state senator concludes at the end of the year.
