WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. – A 35-year-old woman has been arrested after deputies say she stole household items from a home she was renting in Weeki Wachee.

On June 7, 2023, Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Dirlenton Way in Weeki Wachee about a grand theft.

Before their arrival, deputies spoke to the homeowner on the telephone regarding two tenants who recently moved out of his rental home.

The homeowner, currently living out of state, said he rented out his home to two women in June of 2022. The homeowner told deputies that the home was fully furnished when he rented out.

At the beginning of June 2023, the homeowner said the two women had moved out of the home, and when a real estate agent went to check the home in preparation for the house to be put on the market and sold, the house was empty.

The homeowner told investigators that items missing from his home included a brown leather couch, a Yamaha piano, various televisions, bikes, silverware, a dining room table, a wicker entertainment center, bedroom sets, golf clubs, a lawnmower, a leaf blower, a garden hose, a toolbox, tools, a wicker sunroom set, a pool pump, copper pipes, and several rugs.

Detectives then contacted neighbors who said they saw a woman and two men loading items from the residence into a truck and trailer. The neighbors were able to positively identify the woman loading items into the truck and trailer as Alyssa Gladu, 35, one of the previous renters.

On June 26, detectives contacted Gladu at her place of employment, and the woman invoked her rights to counsel and refused to speak to detectives, deputies say.

Gladu was arrested on a charge of grand theft and was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center where she later posted a $2,000 bond.

Detectives then responded to Gladu’s current residence located on Desert Sparrow Avenue in Weeki Wachee in hopes of locating some of the stolen items from the Dirlenton Way address.

As detectives approached the front door to Gladu’s residence they noted the garage door was halfway open. Detectives were able to see several items in the garage to include a dining room table, chairs, a mower, tools, and a bicycle. Detectives then made contact with a man who answered the front door.

The man advised he and a cousin helped Gladu move items from the Dirlenton Way address to a storage unit, and then later the home on Desert Sparrow Avenue. The man said he believed the property belonged to Gladu.

Using digital photographs, the victim was able to positively identify items in the garage as belonging to him. Detectives then obtained a search warrant to search the Desert Sparrow Avenue address for additional items belonging to the victim and found the majority of them.

The victim had a friend go to the Desert Sparrow Avenue address to recover his stolen property.

Additional charges are pending further investigation.
