After an investigation, Hillsborough County detectives identified the account owner as Hayden John Couto. Couto admitted to posting the threat, stating he was disgruntled with school and wanted to express his viewpoint.

He claimed he had no specific target and chose Hillsborough County because he used to live there. He also denied having any bomb-making materials or knowledge.
