TAMPA, Fla. – A 13-year-old student at Webb Middle School was arrested Tuesday after being found in possession of a knife on school grounds, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

School administrators received a tip indicating that a student might have a weapon. Following the tip, an administrative search was conducted, which led to the discovery of a switchblade-style knife inside the backpack of the student.

The teen admitted to bringing the knife to school and was subsequently arrested. He faces a charge of Possession of a Weapon on School Property.

Sheriff Chad Chronister released a statement emphasizing the importance of school safety.

“There is absolutely no place for weapons on our school campuses,” Sheriff Chronister stated. “Thanks to the vigilance of school staff and the courage of those who reported it, a potentially dangerous situation was quickly addressed. We will always prioritize the safety of our students and staff.”
