CLEARWATER, Fla. – A waterspout in the Gulf of Mexico moved quickly ashore onto Clearwater Beach at about 4:00 pm Friday afternoon, sending beach-related items flying into the air.
Two beachgoers from Kansas, a 70-year-old woman, and a 63-year-old man, were taken to Morton Plant Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Clearwater Fire & Rescue beach lifeguards were first on the scene to treat the patients, followed by other fire department personnel.

The Clearwater Police Department also was on the scene. The incident occurred near Tower 2 on the south part of Clearwater Beach.
