A Tampa man is behind bars in Michigan after kidnapping a man from a Lifetime Fitness parking lot and running from the cops with firearms in his truck.
According to Shelby Township Police, at approximately 7:15 PM on Monday, officers were notified of a kidnapping in the Lifetime Fitness parking lot, located at 14843 Lakeside Blvd.
The initial investigation determined that a 24-year-old male was kidnapped by four armed, masked males in the gym’s parking lot.
The fast-evolving investigation led to officers requesting assistance from the Sterling Heights Police Department to check on a residence in their city.

Upon arrival at the address, Sterling Heights Police saw the suspect vehicle parked in the driveway with one occupant inside.
The vehicle fled with Sterling Heights Police in pursuit. After a short chase, the suspect vehicle crashed a short distance away.
The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was captured by the pursuing officer.

Inside the vehicle, the victim was found bound and injured, along with the suspect’s assault rifle. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The suspect who was captured, identified as Angel Antonio Andujar-Ruiz, is a 33-year-old resident of Tampa, Florida. He has an extensive violent criminal history out of Florida, with at least one conviction of Assault with Intent to Murder. It is believed he came to Michigan with only the intent of carrying out this violent crime. This does not appear to be a random act.
Andujar-Ruiz was arraigned today on the following charges:
- Carjacking
- Conspiracy to Commit Carjacking
- Weapons Felony Firearm
- Robbery – Armed
- Conspiracy to Commit Robbery – Armed
- Weapons Felony Firearm
- Torture
- Unlawful Imprisonment
- Conspiracy to Commit Unlawful Imprisonment
- Weapons Felony Firearm
- Home Invasion 1st Degree
- Conspiracy to Commit Home Invasion – 1st Degree
Andujar-Ruiz was denied bond by Judge Douglas Shepherd. His next court date is scheduled for November 7, 2023, at 1:30 p.m.
