President Joe Biden caused a stir by referring to Donald Trump supporters as “garbage” during a heated moment as Vice President Kamala Harris delivered her final appeal ahead of the 2024 election.
The 81-year-old president’s remark came in response to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s comments at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally, where Puerto Rico was compared to a “floating island of garbage.”
Hinchcliffe made the remarks during his routine, alongside other controversial jokes, including references to racial stereotypes.
We would like to note that Hinchcliffe, a podcaster and comedian, performed one set at Tom Brady’s roast on Netflix, and we have included that in the video below this story.

“Just the other day, a speaker at his rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage. Puerto Rico… they’re good, decent, honorable people. The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters. His demonization seems unconscionable, and it’s un-American,” Biden said.
The comment triggered swift backlash from Republicans, drawing comparisons to Hillary Clinton’s controversial “deplorables” remark about Trump supporters in 2016. The incident has intensified political tensions as the election enters its final stretch.
Sen. Marco Rubio said in Allentown, PA: “He’s talking about the Border Patrol. He’s talking about nurses. He’s talking about teachers. He’s talking about everyday Americans who love their country and want to dream big again…and I hope their campaign is about to apologize for what Joe Biden just said. We are not garbage. We are patriots who love America.”
Donald Trump Jr. said, “Team Kamala thinks all Trump supporters are ‘garbage.’ Alexis Nungaray lost her daughter at the hands of an illegal alien that Kamala Harris allowed into our country. She isn’t garbage, she’s an amazing American whose daughter would be alive today if it wasn’t for Kamala Harris.”
