Another election cycle, another U.S. Senate runoff in the state of Georgia.
The Associated Press has called the race for Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, defeating Republican challenger Herschel Walker in a Georgia runoff election Tuesday, ensuring Democrats an outright majority in the Senate for the rest of President Joe Biden’s term.
This election was Warnock’s fourth campaign in two years. In 2020, he ran against appointed GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler to finish former Sen. Johnny Isakson’s term.
That race also went to a runoff that Warnock won in January 2021. Warnock and Georgia Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff’s wins in that election gave Democrats control of the Senate.
This time, Warnock faced Republican challenger Herschel Walker in the lone election race not decided in last month’s general election.
While Donald Trump’s endorsement helped Walker secure the nomination, the former president mostly stayed on the sidelines throughout the runoff campaign. Trump did hold a telerally for Walker on Monday.

Neither candidate received a majority of the vote, resulting in the runoff.
Nearly 2 million Georgians voted early in the runoff, either in person or via absentee ballot. At least a million more are expected to vote on Election Day. The Nov. 8 race attracted nearly 4 million voters.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. Tuesday across the state and remained open until 7 p.m. Any voter in line at 7 p.m. would be permitted to cast a ballot.
