Vice President JD Vance met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi today, announcing significant progress towards a U.S.-India Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) and formally finalizing the Terms of Reference for negotiations.
The meeting, which included Second Lady Mrs. Usha Vance, their children, and senior members of the Trump Administration accompanying the Vice President, focused on strengthening the U.S.-India Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, with a particular emphasis on economic ties.

According to a readout from the meeting, Vice President Vance and Prime Minister Modi welcomed the progress made in BTA negotiations, stating the finalized Terms of Reference lay down a clear roadmap for future discussions.
The proposed BTA is envisioned as a modern trade agreement aimed at promoting job creation and citizen well-being in both nations, with the goal of enhancing bilateral trade and integrating supply chains in a balanced and mutually beneficial manner.

The agreement is expected to generate new growth opportunities for workers, farmers, and entrepreneurs in both countries, aligned with India’s vision of ‘Amrit Kaal’ and the U.S. vision of a ‘Golden Age for America.’
The visit follows closely after a successful meeting between President Trump and Prime Minister Modi in Washington earlier this year.
That meeting reaffirmed the strength of the bilateral partnership and saw the launch of the INDIA-U.S. COMPACT (Catalyzing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology), an initiative rooted in mutual trust, shared interests, goodwill, and robust citizen engagement.

Today’s discussions provided an opportunity for both leaders to review the advancements in bilateral relations and the implementation of outcomes from the India-U.S. Joint Statement issued on February 13, 2025.
They also exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
