In 2019, while running for president, Kamala Harris called for the removal of school resource officers (SROs) as part of her vision to “demilitarize” school campuses.
However, her silence following the recent actions of an SRO, who intervened and arrested a 14-year-old accused shooter at Apalachee High School in Georgia, has drawn criticism.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) praised the officers for their swift actions and took the opportunity to remind Vice President Harris of her previous stance. The group suggested that the situation could have been far worse without the presence of the armed officer.
“Once again, a good guy with a gun stopped a bad guy with a gun, demonstrating how wrong Kamala Harris was about the importance of armed school resource officers,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “They literally saved lives in Georgia. It’s one of many things, especially related to firearms and crime intervention, that she’s been wrong about.”

Before exiting the 2020 presidential race, Harris advocated for controversial policies, including “mandatory buybacks” of privately-owned modern rifles, which opponents dubbed “compensated confiscation.” She also supported a ban on semiautomatic rifles, despite FBI data showing that such rifles are used in only 3-4% of gun-related homicides annually.
“Kamala Harris, like other anti-gun-rights Democrats, is more focused on sensational headlines than real solutions,” Gottlieb added. “Banning guns won’t stop crime, and removing armed school resource officers would, as we saw on Wednesday, make schools and children more vulnerable.”

Gottlieb urged the media to scrutinize Harris’s policies, stating, “It’s time for the media to end its love affair with the vice president and start examining what else she’s been wrong about.”
