Rep. Greg Steube this week notched a major legislative win, as the Republican-led House passed his bill to protect women’s sports.

The House passed the Sarasota Republican’s Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023, which states that schools receiving federal funding must block men who identify as women from competing in women’s sports.

“The Left’s fervent support of the radical trans agenda has come at the expense of women’s rights across the country. Parents do not want biological men in locker rooms with their daughters, nor do they believe it’s equitable that a male can compete with women in female athletics,”  Steube said after the vote.

“That is the whole purpose behind the creation of [federal law] Title IX. Yet the Left wants to destroy Title IX by allowing biological men to erase women’s sports.”

“Voters across the nation gave the U.S. House to the GOP to deliver on our promises. Saving women’s sports has long been a priority issue for our conference and I’m thankful for the support of Speaker [Kevin] McCarthy and the House Leadership team to get it across the finish line today. Whether it’s on the field, court, track, or in the pool: House Republicans have shown we stand on the side of fairness for female athletes,” Steube added.

Steube’s bill passed by a 219-203 vote.

Every House Democrat voted against it, a point noted by Steube’s fellow Republican, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia.

“The House just passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act to ensure Title IX is protecting real women!!” Greene tweeted on Thursday.

“Unfortunately, every single Democrat voted against it because they believe in beating down women while propping up trans terrorists.”

Steube filed the bill in the last session of Congress in January 2021.

Although it gathered support from 133 Republicans, the measure died last year amid resistance from the Democratic majority.

The current bill now heads to a vote in the Senate, whose version was filed by Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama. The bill has 26 cosponsors, including Florida GOP Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott.

President Joe Biden has vowed to veto the bill, if it gets to him, calling it “discriminatory” against trans women — even as evidence mounts that they hold an unfair advantage over biological women in sports and that women athletes are being hurt physically in encounters with trans athletes.
