Entrepreneur and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy is no longer part of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the commission President Donald J. Trump appointed him to co-lead alongside billionaire Elon Musk.

Ramaswamy’s departure was confirmed just hours after Trump took the oath of office on Monday. His exit comes amid growing speculation that he is preparing a bid for the Ohio governor’s race, an endeavor that would require him to distance himself from official government roles.

“Vivek Ramaswamy played a critical role in helping us create DOGE,” said Anna Kelly, a spokesperson for the commission, in a statement. “He intends to run for elected office soon, which requires him to remain outside of DOGE, based on the structure that we announced today. We thank him immensely for his contributions over the last two months and expect him to play a vital role in making America great again.”

Ramaswamy’s potential gubernatorial campaign could set up a high-profile contest in Ohio, where he has deep roots.

As a vocal supporter of Trump’s policies and a self-described “anti-woke” crusader, Ramaswamy gained national attention during his presidential bid in 2024 with his sharp rhetoric, outsider appeal, and pro-business policies.
