A federal jury has convicted three Virginia men for their involvement in a series of violent crimes that terrorized the community over several months in 2017.

Ronzel Monte Dixie, 31, Kwaimain Shy’de Redmon, 30, and Meko Montez Brown Jr., 26, all of Newport News, VA, were found guilty on multiple charges, including racketeering conspiracy, murder in aid of racketeering, attempted murder in aid of racketeering, robbery, carjacking resulting in death, and firearms offenses.

According to court records and evidence presented during the trial, the trio, along with others, engaged in a reign of terror from January to November 2017. Their crimes included at least seven shootings, multiple murders, four commercial robberies, three drug robberies, three carjackings, and two high-speed chases.

One of the most chilling incidents occurred on November 8, 2017, when Dixie and Brown shot and killed a man, with Dixie allegedly boasting about wanting to reach a body count of ten. Shortly after, the pair also shot a correctional officer during an attempted robbery.

The men were armed with a variety of firearms, including a .22 caliber Uzi-style firearm, a 1911 handgun, a Ruger P95 9mm pistol, and a stolen P9 Khar 9mm pistol. Their violent spree left the community in fear and law enforcement scrambling to apprehend them.

The convictions of Dixie, Redmon, and Brown bring a sense of closure to the victims’ families and the community. However, it also serves as a stark reminder of the impact of gun violence and the importance of community-police cooperation in maintaining safety.

The trio now faces lengthy prison sentences, with sentencing hearings scheduled for a later date. The case was investigated by the FBI, the Newport News Police Department, the Hampton Police Division, and the Virginia State Police, highlighting the collaborative effort that led to their apprehension and conviction.

This verdict sends a strong message that such violent crimes will not be tolerated and that those who engage in them will be held accountable for their actions. The community can now begin to heal and rebuild in the wake of this horrific crime spree.
