HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A Virginia man has been sentenced to prison for his role in the death of an 84-year-old woman following a physical altercation in 2021.
John Anthony Hancock, 42, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Theresa Evelyn Bogue. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by 5 years of probation.

“The evidence in this case was irrefutable and left no doubt about the defendant’s responsibility for this tragic loss of life,” said Walter Forgie, Fifth Judicial Circuit Chief Assistant State Attorney. “By pleading guilty, the defendant has accepted responsibility for his actions and we hope this brings some measure of closure to the victim’s family.”
The incident occurred on June 15, 2021, at a business off Commercial Way in Spring Hill. According to witnesses, Hancock struck Bogue with his fist, causing her to fall and hit her head.

She was hospitalized with a brain bleed and tragically passed away on April 2, 2022, due to complications from the injury.
Hancock fled to his home state of Virginia after the altercation but was later extradited back to Florida to face charges.
