Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz jumped to Gov. Ron DeSantis’s defense after leaked footage of the governor’s 2018 debate preparations made it to ABC News.

In the clip, Rep. Gaetz asked then-Congressman DeSantis, “Is there any issue upon which you disagree with President Trump?”

DeSantis can be seen and heard saying, “Obviously there is because I mean, I voted contrary to him…I have to frame it in a way that’s not going to piss off all his voters.”

Gaetz responded on Sunday.

“I ran the Desantis Debate Prep in 2018. Though I prefer Trump for President (bigly), the release of these videos by the person operating the camera is disloyal hackery that I do not abide. Staffers who leak on the candidates they’ve done work for deserve the reputations they…,” said Gaetz, in a tweet.

In a second video leaked, Gaetz commends DeSantis’ reaction during the debate prep saying, “DeSantis was right in his reaction to my advise on this. Idk why the leaker here thought they were hurting him.”

One user pointed out how much weight Gaetz had lost since 2018, noting that he “looks like a different person,” the Florida Republican responded by saying DeSantis also lost weight.

“We used to stop at Wawa way too much on that 2018 campaign,” Gaetz wrote on Twitter. “More veggies these days!”

Rep. Gatez’s wife, Ginger Gaetz, weighed in, tweeting, “Before and after getting wife’d up, #EatYourVeggies” adding before and after photos of her husband.

DeSantis is widely believed to be weighing a possible 2024 presidential bid, with polling indicating he is the second most popular choice with Republican voters after Trump.
