POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A routine traffic stop in Fort Meade on Sunday, December 15, led to the arrest of 27-year-old Darwin Fereira-Romero of Venezuela on multiple charges, including possession of counterfeit identification cards.
At approximately 8:35 a.m., a Polk County Sheriff’s deputy pulled over a Ford Fusion for traveling 15 mph over the speed limit.

The driver, identified as Darwin Fereira-Romero, did not have a valid driver’s license. However, he presented a Venezuelan passport, a Permanent USA Resident card, and another identification card. Upon inspection, the deputy determined that while the passport was legitimate, the other two IDs were fake.
In an unusual twist, Fereira-Romero admitted to the deputy that the cards were counterfeit, stating he wanted to be honest about their authenticity—a moment of “honest dishonesty.”
