The USS Harry S. Truman is one of the U.S. Navy’s most formidable aircraft carriers. Measuring over 1,000 feet in length and nearly 260 feet in width, the massive vessel stands more than 240 feet tall. The carrier can accommodate approximately 90 aircraft and a crew of 6,250. Constructed at a cost of $5 billion in 2007, the USS Harry S. Truman is a key asset in the Navy’s fleet, capable of supporting a wide range of military operations.
The collision occurred in the Mediterranean Sea, a strategically significant region where U.S. naval forces frequently operate. While the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear, the Sixth Fleet emphasized that the carrier’s critical systems, including its propulsion plants, were unaffected.
“The collision did not endanger the USS Harry S. Truman,” the statement read. “There are no reports of flooding or injuries, and the ship is in a safe and stable condition.”
The merchant ship involved in the collision has not been identified, and the extent of damage to the vessel is unknown at this time.

The USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group (HSTCSG) was deployed to the Middle East in Decmebner 2024. It is operating in the U.S. Central Command (USCENTCOM) area of responsibility as part of its deployment to support regional stability and security.
The strike group is composed of several key naval assets, including the flagship USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), the Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 1 with nine embarked aviation squadrons, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 28, and three warships:
- USS Gettysburg (CG 64): A Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser.
- USS Stout (DDG 55): An Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer.
- USS Jason Dunham (DDG 109): Another Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer.
The HSTCSG deployment is focused on maintaining stability and ensuring security in the region, which includes vital waterways and strategic points of interest. The U.S. Central Command oversees a critical area that spans parts of the Middle East, South Asia, and Central Asia, making the presence of the carrier strike group a key component of U.S. maritime strategy in the region.
