A pro-Trump attorney from Michigan has been arrested after a hearing in Washington, D.C. for illegally accessing voting machines and leaking confidential emails from Dominion Voting Systems.

Stefanie Lambert, the attorney in question, was apprehended by U.S. Marshals following a separate court case.

This arrest comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding the 2020 election and baseless conspiracy theories championed by former President Donald Trump.

The arrest of Stefanie Lambert is the latest development in a convoluted legal saga that began after the 2020 presidential election.

Lambert had gained access to confidential emails from Dominion Voting Systems while representing Patrick Byrne, a prominent funder of election conspiracy theorists. Dominion Voting Systems, a target of false claims related to Trump’s election loss, filed a defamation lawsuit against Byrne.

Stefanie Lambert was arrested on “local charges” by U.S. Marshals following a hearing in Washington, D.C. The arrest was made after a Michigan judge issued a bench warrant for Lambert, who had missed a hearing in her case.

In the Michigan case, Lambert is facing four felony charges for illegally accessing voting machines in search of evidence to support a conspiracy theory against Trump. Lambert had previously attempted to overturn Trump’s loss in Michigan through a failed lawsuit.

Lambert admitted to passing on the Dominion documents to law enforcement during the hearing. She attached an affidavit, signed by Dar Leaf, a county sheriff in northern Michigan, to a filing in her own case. The leaked emails were also posted under Leaf’s name on a social media platform.

The disclosure of these documents triggered a new wave of threats against Dominion and prompted the company to file a motion seeking Lambert’s removal from the Byrne defamation case.

Dominion Voting Systems has filed multiple defamation lawsuits against individuals who spread conspiracy theories about the company’s election equipment.

Last year, Fox News settled a prominent defamation case filed by Dominion for $787 million. Lambert’s actions have been deemed a “total disregard” for court orders and the safety of Dominion employees.

U.S. District Court Judge Moxila A. Upadhyaya has scheduled a subsequent hearing to determine appropriate sanctions or Lambert’s removal from the case.
