In a brazen act of aggression, Iranian-backed Houthi forces attacked two oil tankers in the Red Sea on the morning of September 2nd. The attack, which involved ballistic missiles and a drone, targeted the Panama-flagged MV BLUE LAGOON I and the Saudi-flagged MV AMJAD, both carrying crude oil.

The MV AMJAD was laden with a massive two million barrels, raising serious environmental concerns.

This incident follows a similar Houthi attack on the Greek-owned MV DELTA SOUNION in late August. The DELTA SOUNION remains ablaze in the Red Sea, posing a significant threat of an environmental catastrophe.

These attacks highlight the destabilizing impact of the Houthis’ actions on regional and global commerce, endangering civilian lives and marine ecosystems. U.S. Central Command has pledged to continue working with its allies to safeguard maritime trade and minimize environmental damage despite the Houthis’ reckless behavior.
