PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla – Amid ongoing discussions about the challenges of playing at Steinbrenner Field due to hurricane-damaged Tropicana Field, the Tampa Bay Rays are focusing on what they can control: preparing for the upcoming season.
Rock Riley, reporting from Rays Camp in Port Charlotte, highlighted the positive atmosphere surrounding the team despite the off-the-field drama.
“You know, there’s been so much talk about the stadium, the hurricanes, the lack of a roof at Tropicana Field, and the need to play at Steinbrenner Field,” Riley said. “But the players aren’t thinking like that. It’s very, very positive here.”

According to Riley, the upbeat mood starts at the top with manager Kevin Cash, who has instilled a sense of confidence and purpose in the team.
“They think they have the talent to go far, especially with a really, really strong pitching staff,” Riley reported. “They want to put the mindset in camp, be ready for opening day, not like last year. So again, very, very positive here.”
