BRANDON, Fla – A 1-year-old boy from Brandon was killed in a crash on the Selmon Expressway just after 11:30 pm on Sunday.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a Hyundai Sonata was traveling westbound in the outside lane of the Selmon near milepost 11 when the driver lost control of the car.

Troopers say the vehicle traveled to the shoulder and collided with a guardrail.

On Impact with the guardrail, the 1-year-old, not in a car seat, was ejected from the vehicle.

Following the collision with the guardrail, the car was redirected back into the travel lanes and collided with a Nissan Pathfinder.

Troopers say the SUV came to a controlled stop while the car rotated to a final stop in the outside travel lane.

The child was transported to a local hospital, but died from injuries suffered in the crash.
