The University of West Florida is in line to receive $500,000 from the federal government to bolster on-campus childcare programs.
The money for the Pensacola-based university is part of more than $13 million in grants going to 34 higher-education institutions, according to an announcement this week by the U.S. Department of Education.
A news release said the grants are designed to help low-income students who have children.

“I am a big believer in campus child care programs because I’ve seen how they break down barriers to upskilling and attaining postsecondary education for parents with young children — bringing the American Dream within reach for families across America,” U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said in a statement.
