TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa reprimanded a conservative student for inviting Planned Parenthood to hear one of its former directors explain how she became a pro-life activist.0

According to The College Fix, Abby Johnson is scheduled to speak about her journey today at UT at the invitation of the campus chapter of the Young Americans for Freedom, or YAF.

Johnson spent eight years as a director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas before quitting and becoming anti-abortion. Johnson reportedly described herself as a feminist and had two abortions of her own before she retracted her former beliefs. Her story was the subject of the 2019 movie “Unplanned.”

As The Fix reported, YAF invited the campus group Planned Parenthood Generation Action to Johnson’s talk.

“Simply inviting the group to the event triggered a meeting with the Office of Student Conduct, however,” The Fix noted.

The Planned Parenthood group declined the Instagram invite, saying. “Thank you for the invitation, but we would like to be left alone and for you to please stop messaging us thank you.”

“Of course, just thought you guys might be interested!” YAF replied. “The invitation will still be open if you change your minds.”

The next invitation, however, went to Nicole Gillis, the leader of YAF, to have a sit-down with the director of the Office of Student Conduct over an alleged harassment complaint.

After the meeting, UT administrators determined that the Instagram exchange did not meet the definition of harassment and let Gillis off with a verbal warning.

Nick Baker, spokesman for the national YAF group, said in a statement, “Since when is it potentially harassment to send an invitation to an event? Why did the university give the report any hint of credence at all?”

“Luckily, these brave YAFers will not face any consequences (aside from the time they’ve been forced to waste dealing with these frivolous allegations), but nonetheless, it’s very telling that the Left is so afraid of hearing and engaging with Johnson’s personal testimony.”

Johnson’s lecture is free and open to the public. It is scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight at UT’s Graduate Health and Studies Building, Room 106.
