Florida first lady Casey DeSantis recently triggered liberals simply by wearing a jacket. Now, her attire also makes her a “racist,” according to yet another unhinged leftist.
As chronicled by The Blaze on Wednesday, Marvin Dunn, a Miami resident whose Twitter handle describes him as a “historian, author, [and] progressive Democrat,” argued that DeSantis wore her black leather jacket featuring an alligator encircled by the slogan “Where Woke Goes to Die” to send a sinister racist message.
Dunn, who is black, tweeted, “Casey DeSantis Florida’s First Lady makes a racist fashion statement. Black babies as alligator bait was a theme in racist Florida humor of the early 1900s. It’s an inside joke. If you are not from Florida, you may not get it. She does. Do you?”

Dunn added, “Casey DeSantis knew what the leather jacket she wore signified in Florida’s racist history. Why did she wear it in 85 degrees (sic) weather?”
Fortunately, Twitter’s readers put Dunn’s overreach in context.
In Community Notes attached to his tweet, readers noted, “Alligators are a prominent feature in Florida and are featured in myriad ways, none of which are explicitly racist. According to a prominent Florida tourism website, ‘Alligators and crocodiles are the Sunshine State’s most iconic animals.’”
Which anyone from Florida, such as Dunn, and probably most people who are not from Florida, would know.
Other readers lit up Dunn’s Twitter feed for his ridiculous claim about DeSantis.

“The Florida Gators football and other collegiate sports teams have some explaining to do,” one said.
Another added, “This right here is CRT [Critical Race Theory] in action. Fiction created to play on the emotions of uninformed people.”
Sara Gonzales of The Blaze simply added, “This might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen on Twitter.”
Dunn’s comments came just days after Katie Baker, executive editor of the far left website The Daily Beast, also ranted about Casey DeSantis’ jacket, calling her in part a “Walmart Melania.”
“Casey DeSantis’ coat is just like her husband Ron DeSantis’ campaign: Crude. Grasping. Saying the ugly part out loud. … Florida is where the woke go to die—and a lot of other people die as well,” Baker said in her screed.
“The jacket, then, is a warning: Watch out, America.”
The presidential campaign of Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis responded by using Baker’s piece as a fundraiser. It began marketing a $65 sweatshirt modeled after Casey’s jacket.
In its pitch, the campaign said, “The Daily Beast called First Lady Casey DeSantis’ Where Woke Goes to Die Jacket ‘crude.’ The people of Iowa, on the other hand, called it awesome.”
“WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BUY THIS JACKET. The left-wing media will be very upset!”
