The United States government today announced a new wave of sanctions targeting Iran’s oil supply chain, imposing penalties on entities and vessels based in China, the United Arab Emirates, and India accused of facilitating Iranian petroleum exports.

The U.S. Department of State sanctioned Guangsha Zhoushan Energy Group Co Ltd, a second China-based terminal operator identified as having received at least eight Iranian crude oil shipments in recent years. Additionally, the State Department designated three vessel management companies and identified two vessels linked to these companies as blocked property due to their roles in transporting Iranian petroleum.

Concurrently, the U.S. Department of the Treasury designated multiple UAE- and India-based entities and blocked nearly 30 vessels implicated in the shipping of Iranian oil.

These coordinated actions represent the fifth round of sanctions targeting Iranian oil sales since President Trump issued National Security Presidential Memorandum 2 on February 4, 2025, mandating a campaign of “maximum pressure” against Iran.

“The United States is committed to aggressively implementing and enforcing sanctions targeting Iran’s entire oil supply chain, including sanctioning those who help Iran evade sanctions and export Iranian oil to China,” stated State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce in the announcement.

The administration asserts these measures advance President Trump’s policy aimed at denying Tehran revenue streams allegedly used to finance destabilizing activities, fund corrupt officials, counter the regime’s “malign influence,” and prevent the development of nuclear weapons. A key objective is to “drive Iran’s export of oil to zero — especially oil exports to China,” according to the State Department.

The sanctions were implemented pursuant to Executive Orders 13846 and 13902, which target Iran’s petroleum and petrochemical sectors.

“We will continue to curb illicit funding that funds Iran’s malign activities… and use all the tools at our disposal to hold the regime accountable,” the State Department statement concluded.
