Americans will be waiting again. After votes on Thursday, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Democrat-Md., told representatives the chamber would adjourn until at least Tuesday pending an agreement on pandemic aid and full-year government funding. Yes, a long relaxing weekend, is needed for these ‘leaders’.
McConnell on Thursday said that he hopes “our colleagues let Congress deliver more help soon.”
“A lot of Americans simply can’t afford to wait,” he said.
A $908 billion bipartisan proposal would leave out direct stimulus payments to citizens, but rather focus on providing jobless workers with an additional $300 in weekly unemployment aid. On December 8th, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin also proposed a $916 billion package that would provide stimulus checks worth $600 per person, although it would cut back on unemployment aid, according to the Wall Street Journal.
On Thursday, Sen. Josh Hawley, Republican-Mo., is introducing a bill that would include second $1,200 stimulus payments.
Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., said in an interview Thursday with Fox News that his plan for second checks includes $1,200 per individual, $2,400 per couple, and $500 per child.
“The most important thing that Congress can do is send direct assistance checks to every working family who needs them,” he said.
“I will go to the floor and ask for an up-or-down vote on direct assistance to families,” he said.
Earlier this week, Hawley urged President Donald Trump to reject COVID-19 legislation that did not include a second round of checks directly to citizens.
Where does this leave you? Waiting…
