A much-anticipated warm-up is set to sweep across the United States this week, bringing a welcome break from the persistent winter chill that has gripped many regions since early January. AccuWeather meteorologists predict a surge of spring-like temperatures, offering a taste of milder weather to come.
This shift in weather patterns is driven by a northward bulge in the jet stream, ushering in warmer air and drier conditions. Temperatures are expected to peak midweek before gradually declining towards the weekend.

“For some locations in the northern half of the country, it hasn’t been above freezing for at least a week, if not two weeks,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Grady Gilman. “This notable warm-up will finally bring many spots well above the 32-degree mark for an extended period of time.”
The warm-up will be particularly pronounced in the Plains and interior Northeast, where temperatures are forecast to reach the 60s and even 70s Fahrenheit by Tuesday. This marks a dramatic 70-90 degree increase from the frigid temperatures experienced in these regions last week.
The East Coast can also anticipate a milder period, with highs in the 40s and 50s, aiding in the melting of any remaining snow and ice. “In much of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, the warmup really begins in earnest on Monday and peaks from Tuesday to Wednesday,” explained AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski.
While the Southeast will experience a more gradual warming trend, temperatures are still projected to climb into the 60s by Monday and continue rising throughout the week.
This early preview of spring brings relief to many, though forecasters advise that temperatures may fluctuate between warm spells and cold intrusions as is typical during the transition between seasons. With the official start of meteorological spring just a week away on March 1st, this warm-up offers a hopeful sign of the milder weather ahead.
