Former President Donald Trump on Friday endorsed his one-time rival but now fellow Floridian, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, for re-election in 2022.
“It is my honor to give U.S. Senator Marco Rubio my complete and total endorsement,” Trump said in a statement.
“Marco has been a tireless advocate for the people of Florida, fighting to cut taxes, supporting our Second Amendment, our military and our vets, a strong national defense, and all of the forgotten men and women of America.”
Trump added, that Rubio has worked at helping “small businesses grow” and reduce unemployment. “Marco will never let the great people of Florida, or our country, down,” said Trump.
Trump has been on an endorsement binge of late.
His show of support for Rubio came a day after he endorsed Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, and backed GOP Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin.
In Paul’s case, Trump noted in a statement, “Rand Paul has done a fantastic job for our Country, and for the incredible people of Kentucky. He fights against the Swamp in Washington, the Radical Left Liberals, and especially the destructive RINOS, of which there are far too many, in Congress.”

“Rand will continue to stand up for our great AMERICA FIRST policies because he believes in stopping wasteful spending, defending our Second Amendment rights, and taking care of our Military and our Vets,” Trump added. “I am proud to be working with Rand in our battle to Make America Great Again. He has my Complete and Total Endorsement for another term in the U.S. Senate.”
Johnson, meanwhile, has said he may not run again to honor a campaign pledge to serve 12 years.
Trump hoped to change that.
“He is brave, he is bold, he loves our Country, our Military, and our Vets. He will protect our Second Amendment and everything else we stand for. It is the kind of courage we need in the U.S. Senate. He has no idea how popular he is,” Trump said in a statement.
“Run, Ron, Run!”
Both Rubio and Paul ran against Trump for the 2016 GOP presidential nomination.
During the campaign, Trump started referring to the Florida senator as “Little Marco,” prompting Rubio to respond with comments about the size of Trump’s hands.
“Have you seen his hands?” Rubio once told a crowd. “And you know what they say about men with small hands – you can’t trust them.”
