U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers from the Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group launched Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles (TLAMs) targeting Iranian-backed Houthi facilities in Yemen on December 31.

The strikes were conducted within the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility and aimed at disrupting the Houthis’ military infrastructure.

The coordinated missile strikes targeted critical Houthi command and control centers, weapon production facilities, and storage sites. According to U.S. military officials, the operation was intended to degrade the Houthis’ ability to threaten regional stability and international shipping routes, particularly in the Red Sea, a critical artery for global trade.

This operation comes amidst heightened tensions in the region, with Iranian-backed groups increasingly engaging in hostile actions against U.S. and allied interests. The Houthis, who are supported by Iran, have been implicated in attacks on civilian infrastructure and shipping lanes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, raising concerns about maritime security.

The Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, which includes advanced guided-missile destroyers, has been operating in the region to support CENTCOM’s mission of ensuring security and deterring aggression. The carrier group’s presence in the Red Sea is part of broader U.S. efforts to protect freedom of navigation and counter regional threats.
