The U.S. Marshals Service has joined the search for John Matthew Nigh, 37, who escaped from the Craven County Detention Facility in New Bern, North Carolina on January 26th. Nigh has an extensive criminal history, including charges related to attempted murder of law enforcement, drugs, and weapons.
He was being held on attempted murder charges at the time of his escape.
The U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, along with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, are assisting in the search and are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to Nigh’s arrest.

Nigh is described as a white male, 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing approximately 175 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He has several tattoos, including a cross on his right arm, the initials “JMN” on his upper left arm, “LIFE” on his left leg, and “TRIBAL” on his right shoulder.
Authorities consider Nigh armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-877-WANTED2 or submit a tip via the USMS Tips App.
