Democrats are working on what is surely a historic daily double.
On Thursday, they removed one Republican congresswoman from her committee assignments for things she did and said before she got into office. And next week they most likely will vote in unison to punish a Republican president who is no longer in office.
Meanwhile, they do nothing to punish their own members who rouse the rabble, spread lies and hate and bust all the norms that have held us together as a nation for more than 230 years.
Surely, with this agenda, the country will be united any day now.
With Thursday’s action, House Democrats stripped Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of her seats on the House Budget Committee and Education and Labor Committee.
According to The Washington Times, House Majority Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said Greene deserved to be punished “for her previous behavior – including liking a comment on social media in 2019 that said ‘a bullet to the head would be quicker’ to remove House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.”
“None of us should take any pleasure in what we must do today,” Hoyer said. “But to do nothing would be an abdication of our moral responsibility to our colleagues, to the House, to our values, to the truth, and to our country.”
“No member ought to be able to engage in the behavior that Rep. Greene has and face zero consequences,” Hoyer added.
Eleven Republicans agreed and joined Democrats in rebuking Greene. They include Reps. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, John Katko of New York, Fred Upton of Michigan, Nicole Malliotakis of New York, Carlos Gimenez of Florida, Chris Jacobs of New York, Young Kim of California, Maria Elvira Salazar of Florida, Chris Smith of New Jersey, and Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida.
The question that Democrats refuse to answer is why their lives matter more than those of their constituents.
For months last summer Democrats coyly egged on rioters, looters, and vandals who destroyed private and government property, and committed mayhem that by some counts led to countless injuries and the deaths of more than two dozen people.
Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters provided the fodder for one example that would be hilarious if it weren’t so disheartening for pointing how duplicitous and hypocritical Democrats are.
A Twitter troll repackaged comments Waters made about getting in the faces and lies on Trump administration officials. The tweet quoted Waters verbatim with a twist: the tweet substituted the New York Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s name for Trump’s.
Democrats dutifully denounced the Twitter user for inciting violence against government officials, blissfully ignorant that the comments belonged to one of their own.
That, however, is not all they ignore.
As GOP lawmakers have pointed out, not only have Democrats rejected adverse action against those cheered on rioters, they have refused to condemn the openly anti-Semitic comments of at least two Democrats, they did nothing about a third who consorted with a Chinese communist spy, and stood silent as one high-ranking Democrat trafficked in lies that former President Donald Trump conspired with Russian operatives to win the 2016 election, which tore the country in half.
According to the Times, Greene said in a floor speech that she regretted getting entangled in a web of conspiracy theories promoted by QAnon and others.
“The problem with that is I was allowed to believe things that weren’t true and I would ask questions about them and talk about them, and that is absolutely what I regret,” she said.
The same could apply to Democrats who for four long years believed and regurgitated every fable whispered or shouted about the Trump administration or Trump’s followers — yet did nothing to police their own.
One example just came up.
As Democratic leaders were plotting to remove Greene – again for things she said before she got into Congress – Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was accusing a GOP senator of trying to have her “murdrered,” likened him to a rapist, smeared Capitol Police officers as traitors and most recently told hyperventilating lies about the Jan. 6 hooligans coming to get her.
But AOC, and every other Democrat who pushed Russia collusion and other fibs, goes on their merry way.
On Thursday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who recently scolded Greene publicly for her ill-informed and malicious comments, said, “This resolution sets a dangerous new standard that will only deepen divisions within this house. Never before in the history of this house has the majority abused its power in this way – never.”
Just give them time. Something else will soon surface – say, an unprecedented impeachment vote of a former president.
Greene’s timing wasn’t too smart on putting forth her bid to impeach Biden, however strongly she feels about it. However, if you follow the same line of reasoning, since all the dems voted to impeach Trump, they are doing the same thing, but they aren’t removing themselves from their committees. 10 Republicans voted to have her removed as well . . . so the GOP isn’t united as regards her staying on committees. All of us need to get busy and make sure our elections are fair and real, starting now. That’s the only way out of this.
