In a move to further pressure Russia amidst its ongoing conflict with Ukraine, the United States has imposed sanctions on two entities and two vessels involved in attempts to export liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project.
The targeted companies, Gotik Energy Shipping Co and Plio Energy Cargo Shipping OPC PVT LTD, are respectively the registered owner and commercial manager of the LNG carrier New Energy.

This vessel, along with another identified vessel, Mulan, were used to transport LNG from the Arctic LNG 2 project using deceptive practices, including disabling its tracking system.
These actions demonstrate the U.S. government’s resolve to thwart any efforts to exploit the sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project or bolster Russia’s energy capabilities. In collaboration with G7 partners and allies, the U.S. remains committed to countering Russia’s use of energy resources for political leverage.

The sanctions, imposed under Executive Order 14024, highlight the U.S. government’s determination to hold accountable those who provide support to sanctioned entities.
