FORT PIERCE, Fla. – A 9.5-foot female manatee found herself high and dry on a sandbar in Fort Pierce Sunday and it was all hands on deck for Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and U.S. Coast Guard Station Fort Pierce.

Concerned residents alerted the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) about the stranded beauty, who then called in a local Coast Guard crew to assist with the rescue.

FWC biologists conducted an on-site health assessment and determined that the manatee was in good health and could safely return to the water.

“Please call the FWC hotline at 888-404-3922 to report injured, stranded, or dead marine mammals. Remember to never push back a stranded marine mammal as they strand for a reason and would need to be evaluated to determine if rehabilitation is necessary.”
