United Nations Command said a United States citizen was detained Tuesday in North Korea after crossing from South Korea.

The organization that oversees security in the “Demilitarized Zone” separating the North and South said in a tweet that the U.S. national was on a JSA “orientation tour” of the area and “crossed without authorization.”

It said the American was in DPRK custody and it was working to “resolve the incident.”

“A U.S. National on a JSA orientation tour crossed, without authorization, the Military Demarcation Line into the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). We believe he is currently in DPRK custody and are working with our KPA counterparts to resolve this incident,” said UN Command.

The U.S. State Department did not immediately reply to a comment request.
