U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), in coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, conducted an airstrike against multiple ISIS-Somalia targets on March 29, 2025.

The airstrike took place Southeast of Bosasso, Puntland, in Northeastern Somalia.

AFRICOM’s initial assessment indicates that the airstrike resulted in the deaths of multiple ISIS-Somalia operatives and caused no civilian casualties.

U.S. Africa Command stated that ISIS-Somalia has demonstrated both the intent and capacity to attack U.S. and partner forces and that the group’s actions pose a threat to U.S. security interests, according to AFRICOM.

AFRICOM, working alongside the Federal Government of Somalia and Somali Armed Forces, said it will continue to take action to weaken ISIS-Somalia’s ability to plan and carry out attacks that threaten the U.S. homeland, U.S. forces, and U.S. citizens abroad.

To maintain operational security, specific details about the operation will not be released.
