MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrests of two men on separate drug trafficking charges, emphasizing a commitment to combating the distribution of dangerous narcotics, particularly fentanyl.
“I will not allow criminal drug dealers to peddle these dangerous narcotics — particularly fentanyl — in our community,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay.
Miami Man Arrested on Cocaine Charges
A 30-year-old man from Miami, Florida, Hector Nicholas Monje, was arrested on Wednesday following a Sheriff’s Office investigation. Monje faces charges of cocaine trafficking, cocaine sales, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was apprehended after a traffic stop on U.S. 1 near Mile Marker 102, where more than two ounces of cocaine were discovered in his vehicle. K9 Mako assisted in the investigation. Monje was taken to jail.

Marathon Man Arrested on Fentanyl Charges
A 33-year-old Marathon, Florida, man, John Casey Kornetti, was arrested on Wednesday on fentanyl charges. The Sheriff’s Office investigation was conducted with assistance from the Key West Police Department.
Kornetti is charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession of drug paraphernalia, destruction of evidence, and resisting arrest. He also had an outstanding warrant for violation of probation. Kornetti was stopped near Bahama Street.
During the arrest, he attempted to resist and was found to be in possession of approximately $5,220 in cash and multiple bags of suspected narcotics. It was reported that Kornetti stepped on some of the narcotics during the arrest. He was also taken to jail.
