President Donald Trump is pressing Greenland’s 56,000 residents to decide their future, suggesting they ditch Denmark for the U.S. in a Truth Social post Sunday.
While reaffirming his desire to acquire the Arctic island for national security, Trump emphasized self-determination, writing, “The United States strongly supports the people of Greenland’s right to determine their own future,” and promising billions in investment to “make you rich” if they join America.
‘We will continue to KEEP YOU SAFE, as we have since World War II,’ Trump said. ‘We are ready to INVEST BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to create new jobs and MAKE YOU RICH.

His pitch echoed last week’s joint address to Congress, where he predicted Greenland would join the U.S. “one way or the other,” citing its strategic value.
Though he’s backed off earlier hints of force, Trump sidestepped Denmark’s authority over the territory, which includes Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
Elon Musk amplified the message to his 219.5 million X followers, while Donald Trump Jr.’s January visit to Nuuk fueled speculation of groundwork—or a pulse-check on local sentiment.

Greenland’s vast 836,330 square miles make it the world’s least densely populated country, but its resources and location draw U.S. interest. Trump vowed safety and prosperity, calling it “very, very important for military security” in his record-long congressional speech.
Denmark’s stance remains unclear as the proposal stirs debate over sovereignty and strategy.
