President-elect Donald Trump has selected Rep. Elise Stefanik to serve as his ambassador to the United Nations, a choice that highlights Stefanik’s strong alignment with Trump’s “America First” approach.
“I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter,” Trump told the New York Post.

Stefanik, 40, who currently serves as House Republican Conference Chair, has been a consistent ally of Trump in Congress and was previously considered as a potential vice-presidential pick. Born and raised in upstate New York, Stefanik graduated from Harvard University and served in the White House under President George W. Bush, working on the Domestic Policy Council and in the chief of staff’s office.
“I am truly honored to earn President Trump’s nomination to serve in his Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations,” Stefanik said in a statement confirming her acceptance of the role.
In 2014, at the age of 30, Stefanik became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, representing upstate New York, and later the youngest woman to hold a leadership role in the House. Initially seen as a moderate conservative, Stefanik redefined her political stance over time, aligning closely with Trump and becoming a prominent figure within the MAGA movement.

Stefanik’s ascent in the GOP ranks was fueled by her staunch defense of Trump, particularly during his impeachment trials and in response to his criminal indictments. She was also a vocal supporter in the 2024 race, endorsing him early and campaigning aggressively on his behalf.
Her national profile rose further when her forceful questioning of university presidents on anti-Semitism led to two resignations, an effort that won Trump’s praise.
Stefanik joins the ranks of Trump’s most trusted allies in his new administration, stepping into a role previously held by Nikki Haley, who ran against Trump in the 2024 GOP primary. Now, as U.N. ambassador, Stefanik is set to bring her dedication to Trump’s policies to the global stage.
