Former President Donald Trump has sued the Justice Department, demanding that investigators be blocked from reviewing any documents seized from his home until a watchdog can be appointed.
Trump filed the action in Florida on Monday, according to The Hill, saying he wanted a judge to name a ‘special master’ who would review the documents.
“Trump’s attorneys ask for outside oversight to ensure the materials seized from his home do not include items they argue could be protected by executive privilege,” The Hill noted.
In their brief, Trump’s lawyers wrote, “It is unreasonable to allow the prosecutorial team to review them without meaningful safeguards.”
In a statement, Trump announced that he is “strongly asserting” his Fourth Amendment rights, regarding the “unnecessary, unwarranted, and unAmerican Break-in” of his Mar-a-Lago estate.
He said the FBI agents “demanded” that security cameras be turned off, blocked his lawyers from watching them, seized documents covered by both attorney-client and executive privilege and even brought in a “safe cracker” to open his safe.
“ALL documents have been previously declassified,” Trump wrote.

Besides the special master, he added, “We are demanding that the DOJ be forced to turn over a REAL, without ‘plants,’ inventory of my property that was taken and disclose where that property is now located.”
The “wrongful, overbroad” warrant was signed by a judge who two months ago recused himself from another lawsuit Trump had filed “because of his bias and animus toward me,” Trump argued.
“The Mar-a-Lago Break-in, Search, and Seizure was illegal and unconstitutional, an we are taking all actions necessary to get the documents back, which we would have given to them without the necessity of the despicable raid of my home,” said Trump.
“I will never stop fighting for the American people, our Country and the Rule of Law.”
